Manufacturing of the suburban environment

Author: Emeric Lambert
Preface: Jacques Levy

The Planetary Park pursues the themes developed within the agency and dissects the history of the suburban city and describes, through an investigation, the fabrication of the contemporary environment that developed around cities in the 20th century.

Starting from the imaginary of palaces in the countryside, and then following the concrete case of the city of Sénart, the subject establishes the suburban city as a realized utopia of prosperity. Political decisions, historical and contemporary facts, are reported with the pragmatism of a police investigation.

The suburban project is inexorably built up over the course of the book and gives the reader the keys to understanding this contemporary mode of manufacturing housing. This book presents, through a reflection on action, elements to conceptualize the peripheral city and make it evolve.
